Prior to that Founding Partner along with Thomas J. Manton in the firm of Manton, Sweeney, Gallo, Reich and Bolz in 1999.
Gerard J. Sweeney is a partner in the firm, with his practice focusing on all areas of estate administration and litigation; along with representing victims of childhood sexual abuse.
Gerard J. Sweeney has served as the Counsel to the Public Administrator of Queens County from January 2, 1992 to the present.
He has been admitted to practice law in the State of New York since 1979 and is a member of the Queens County Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association.
He is also admitted in the four Federal District Courts of New York.
Mr. Sweeney’s practice is concentrated on all manner of both simple and complex estate administration; and has participated in complex litigation involving all forms of contested estate matters.
Mr. Sweeney has appeared on behalf of the estate fiduciary on probate matters; administration matters; real estate transactions; appellate matters; collection matters; kinship matters; negligence and wrongful death cases; as well as the compromise work necessary to finalize wrongful death matters.
Starting in 2019 the firm has commenced over 200 matters under the recently adopted Child Victims Act (CVA) and has appeared in most of the courts of the State of New York to advocate for the many sexual abuse victims whose cases were revived by the passage of the CVA.
As the former Law Chairman of the Queens County Democratic Organization, Mr. Sweeney is an expert in Election Law having successfully litigated election cases at the many trial court and appellate levels in New York.
Mr. Sweeney has lectured on the subject of Surrogate’s matters for many years.
